December tends to be a time of reflection on how much can happen in a year… So here’s our 2024 wrap-up at Symmetry Break.
Highlights with Misgiven
- Beyond our wildest expectations, Misgiven received the great honor of the Deutsche Computerspielpreis Best Newcomer Prototype Award!
- Additionally, it was a very eventful year in terms of presenting the game to the public:
- On site, we exhibited at the Indie Game Fest in Cologne, the POLARIS Convention in Hamburg (with support from Gamecity Hamburg) and the Open Screens at A MAZE. Berlin.
- Online, Misgiven was featured in a whole host of showcases, such as Women-Led Games, Games Baked in Germany, the AdventureX Official Showcase and the TGAGWCAGA 2024. The interview at AdventureX with Alasdair Beckett-King is available to watch here.
- We’re beyond excited to also have Kreativ-Transfer’s support for attending Reboot Develop Blue in spring 2025!
Studio Growth
- We took part in the SpielFabrique MATCH program, which brought us together with other studios and mentors at gamescom, online, and in Strasbourg!
- We met and connected deeply with Games by Stitch, PORCUPINE PARKOUR and Studio Spektar, with whom we’ve got co-productions in the works!
- We released 2 new Unity tools, both earning 5-star ratings on the Asset Store!
- Our first intern ever, Valeria, created stunning new concepts for Misgiven β we can’t wait to share them with you soon!
- We streamed our very first Twitch hangout and Steam playthrough with our lovely community, and made new friendships with many talented developers whose work we admire.
Challenges
- With no further funding avenues available in the current games industry climate, we had to delay development on Misgiven almost to a halt.
- Our team has been hustling, taking on side jobs while the studio couldn’t pay us wages for the most part.
- Despite our hopes, we couldn’t have more folks join our studio, instead having to stay small to weather the storm.
- Finding work for hire has been extremely dry.
- But even during these tough times, we stayed committed to pushing forward, and experience taught us new confidence in our second year as a studio.
Thanks to our network of beautiful human beings who supported us this year and made our continued journey possible. Here’s to an even better 2025 for everyone!
